Balearics History !

In the years of the Punic Wars, the Romans invaded Ibiza and named it Ebusus, specifically in 123 B.C., where they conquered all Balearic Islands. The island did not however became a part of the Roman Empire. It managed to retain its independence as a confederation town. There is proof of the Roman possession that can still be seen by the gates at the entrance to Dalt Vila (the Old Town) which is a copy of two Roman statues; and in Santa Eulalia, where the old Roman Bridge crosses the now dried-up river at the entrance to the town. This bridge has recently been restored.

Then the Arabs appeared 9th century A.D. and occupied the island for almost 5 centuries. They called the island Yebisah, and the Arabic influence can still be found strongly today in many customs, such as the building of the houses, traditional costumes and musical instruments, and of course in the island dialect 'Ibicenco'.

Therefore Balearics brings together several elements for all kinds of cultures and civilizations and that makes it nowadays an extremely interesting destination that successfully combines all these with fantastic nightlife to satisfy all needs!
